Close up : Merino wool

Everything you need to know about Merino wool, the one that will change everything you thought you knew.

What is merino wool ?

Merino wool comes from the sheep of the same name, a breed raised mainly in Australia, which today accounts for nearly 80% of global production. Once harvested, the raw wool is sent for processing. Most batches go through China, but the finest fibres take a different route, straight to Italy.

At Maison Bonnefoy, we’ve chosen to work with an Italian spinning mill that stands out: the only one to offer a 100% extrafine Merino wool yarn fully made in Italy. The fleece, sourced in Australia, is both spun and dyed in a single Italian workshop, ensuring quality, traceability, and care at every step.

A naturally technical fiber

Fine, soft, flexible, ... Merino wool is one of nature's most remarkable materials. Its delicacy, measured in microns, makes it incredibly gentle, even for sensitive skin.

And no, it doesn't itch

It also happens to be :

A smart fiber for everyday life : at home, in the city, or out in the wild.

A material that speaks to us

At Maison Bonnefoy, we believe everything begins with the right material. Merino wool is more than just a fiber : it's a choice that brings together performance, durability, and responsibility.
